Call for help

Hi,
At the moment I don't have much to do, and so I have decided to ask you, the reader, to help me out.
I want emails/comments with ideas for GUI features - no protocol features, please. This means things which will make using Amsn easier, or more fun. Here's the main thing, though:
I don't care how silly, crazy, or obscure your ideas are. I want them all!
(If you've read Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, think of it like Bean's little toon in Ender's army.)

Whenever you get an idea or something just comes to mind, email me with it. In a week or so, I'll write up a list of the ideas I like most and attempt to code them.
You can email me at:
bluetit {at} users [dot] sf (dot) net

Thanks!!
Tom

In the CVS version it is only possible to switch tabs using CTRL+(Page up/down).
I'd like to be able to use CTRL+[shift]+TAB, instead.

In the event viewer ( "19:58:36 Name connected"), there is people with nicks large enought to make me maximize the window in order to see what action have they made. The event should be located before the name, or put a comprehensive icon at the begining.

    that's all

That's a fine idea, I think that having a place to confiugure all Amsn's shortcuts would be good, I'll think about that :)

    Thanks for the suggestion!

About the event viewer, I completely agree with you! I think an icon would be good :)

How about drag 'n' drop support?
e.g.: in Msn Messenger you can drag'n'drop a file on the chat window area and it can be sent: really useful! got quite addicted... linux sometimes lacks these basic d'n'd uses :)

    bye

NoWhereMan: That's kinda a peroblem, due if Tome had written this GUI in GTK all GTK filebrowsers would have the abillity to use drag and drop into the aMSN window, but then what about QT applications?

It would if been if Tom could get this GUI handle QT, and GTK draganddrop

Pete & NoWhereMan: Actually, there's a project out there called Tk DND to do this kind of thing. Some people are also trying to use this in a plugin to solve the issue of DND. So it's a possibility :)

    Thanks,
    Tom

Heya, now that we have display pics in the cl, how about status icons. So for example, you would have:
    {Status Icon} {DP} {Nick} {PSM}
(Assuming the PSM is set to be on the same line.)
Maybe have an option to turn them on or off either in the skin, or in aMSN prefs, as I don't know if everyone would want them.

Could you reorganize the contact tab in the preferences ? Make a cell with columns which contains checkbox and one contact per line, in order to make this tab more comprehensible.

Hi all!, Would it be posible to minimize to max te size of the borders, buttons, icons in the chat window? To people uses 800x600 screens and they have several chat windows in the Desktop, or: apply opacity, give chat window a little rectangle shape form to keep at the top of the screen, without need to minimize it??

Ginex: you might be interested in downloading the cubic skin from amsn.sf.net/skins.php
It uses small pixmaps and stuff to make sure you have plenty of room...

    Hope that helps.

As for your requests about borders and the "small rectangle form", I didnt really understand what you meant...could you draw a picture to show what you mean please?

    Cheers!

hi, I was reffering to get the maximun desktop integration, thinking about the Desklets for Linux, you can see it, use it, and they are there, without disturbing your work. if we have a conversation, and at the same time we're working in another thing, browsing, etc, we have often to maximize the chat window, read, write to the buddy, minimize and come back to the other job. If the chat(s) window(s) are integrated in the Desktop, like a Desklet, it don't use taskbar nor desktop space, useful for other windows.

her is a stupid sample image

(A Linux Desklet that can do that?? )

I don't know if you understand me (my english is not very good).

    See you.

Ginex: I underdstand you know I think - I don't think it can be done with tcl/tk though, sorry!

anonymous(PLEASE LEAVE NAMES!): Amsn people have been toying with the idea of a download manager for ages, but no-one ever got around to doing it. It is a good idea though, thanks for the input :)

    Cheers!

    - Switching tabs with Ctrl+TAB would be great.
    - Closing tabs with Ctrl+W
    - When a new message arrives, the tab should be blinking. It is really hard to notice now. The blinking is almost invisible.
    - Converting cam-logs to mpg or so :)

    - Maybe a change in "privacy"? Now you have like 4 'boxes' AL, BL and so on, with different colors. It can be quite hard to figure thing out.
Would it be possible to 'merge' these 4 boxes into 1 table?
You would have column-names like: "has you in their list", "has you blocked", "is in your list" ,...
And then just Yes/No per contact.
I think it is more intuitive.

Don't know if it is possible, 'cause I haven't seen it anywhere --> how about using subgroups?

Suppose I have 1 group called "School".
Can I divide it into subgroups like "kindergarten", "high school", "college" ?
